I found body benefits Pilates studio in Sept 2008. I was looking for something to help me “fix” my broken body after a mastectomy seven years earlier left me feeling “twisted and broken”. I had tried other forms of exercise only to be told to “do the best you can “ or “we can’t help you”. Anita took the time to understand and learn how to treat my specific needs, she made me feel special. It’s been more than two years since my first private session and I don’t feel “broken” anymore! When I bought my form-fitting wedding dress in April, I was told that it was too tight and would have to be taken out. Being the frugal person I am, I decided that rather than paying someone to alter a dress I was only going to wear one day, I would put that money toward getting myself in shape for the wedding. I am not a big fan of crowded gyms with muscular guys watching me make a fool of myself. Nor do I particularly enjoy jumping around, sweating or exercising in general, but I remembered taking a Pilates class and enjoying it so I decided to look for a studio. When I joined Body Benefits I was met with several pleasant surprises. First, when I walked into my first class there were only 7 other people in it and Anita (the instructor/owner) introduced them all to me. They made me feel welcomed and part of the group immediately. Then, when class began, I was shocked to see that Anita did not get on a mat a join us in doing the exercises. Instead, she walked around the room making sure each of the students where doing the moves correctly and not in any danger of hurting themselves. She even modified to accommodate any injuries the students had. I can write a whole page of why I am glad I joined body benefits, but to make a long story short, when I got married in October I needed double sided tape to hold my dress up. If you’re looking for a low impact but effective workout where you will get individual attention, give Body Benefit’s a chance. You will not regret it!

After many years of playing sports and strenuous outdoor activities like sky diving and white water rafting, I developed low back and hip pain. Due to this pain, I could no longer do the things I enjoyed. At my wife’s suggestion and seeing how Pilates has helped her back pain, I decided to give it a try. After 6 months I noticed much improvement in my pain and overall well being. Getting up in the morning and being pain free was something I hadn’t experienced in quite some time. I’m glad I decided to give Pilates a try and should have done it much sooner

At the constant urging of my wife, I attended my first Pilates lesson about four months ago.  I am amazed with the difference I am already feeling in my body strength and flexibility. A bulging disk has affected many of my activities since the 80s.  Pilates has helped to relieve much of the pain and stiffness.  I am 65 and have been downhill skiing since my 20s.  I know that what I am gaining through Pilates will give me longer days on the slopes with less aches and pains.  The 7 hour ride to Vermont will also be more comfortable because of the body strengthening and toning.  I’m looking forward to a great ski season.  Golf was another sport I enjoyed but had to give up because of my back problem. I now am feeling very positive about being able to play again this spring. Anita’s knowledge of Pilates and her dedication to each client enables her to help each person attain their goals.

I had suffered with low back pain for years and at the suggestion of my physician I had a dexa scan.  The dexa scan revealed that I had osteoporosis of the left hip, left femoral neck, and lumbar spine.  I was reluctant to go on medication and was told that exercise might help.  I began taking Pilates mat classes at Body Benefits twice a week in September of 2008. In July of 2009 I gave up one mat class and added a Pilates springboard class so I could incorporate more strength training to my workout.  I no longer suffer with low back pain and my bones are getting stronger.  My last Dexa scan showed some improvement to my bone mass.  I believe that Pilates has had a great impact on my overall health and well being. I enjoy the classes at Body Benefits and the group of people I exercise with.
